I came across this short film on Vimeo that was posted a week ago. It’s called Alone With People and the title is quite telling. It’s about a 15-year-old girl who comes to terms with her sexuality with the help of her therapist.
It’s so powerful, awkward, and quirky. It provides us with such a positive message. It’s a great depiction of a young girl accepting who she is. She reminded me so much of myself when I was younger, minus the pot smoking and sneaking around watching The L Word.
What makes this piece so palpable is how relatable it is. Literally, this girl is a lot of us lesbians out there. She is as awkward as we were when we came out. She is as honest as we were and definitely as curious. What’s even more amazing is the girl who stars in the film, Quinn Marcus, (from MTV’s Girlcode) wrote it and it’s based on her coming out experience. What a great, personal story she shared with the world.
I just have to say, did Quinn really watch The L Word with her Dad? (Cringe worthy) How awkward is that??? Seeing as how 50% of the show is sex, but again, it was amusingly portrayed.
Like I said before, Alone With People was written by Quinn Marcus and directed by Drew Van Steenbergen. Make sure to check it out. You won’t regret it.
