This is Kate Lyn Sheil.

You might have seen her in movies such as Queen of Earth and You’re Next. But you will definitely be seeing more of her. She is starring in Kate Plays Christine which will premiere at Sundance. The movie is sort of a documovie, where Kate prepares to portray the role of Christine Chubbuck, a real-life news reporter from Florida who killed herself live on air. Chills, man.

Kate has appeared in several other roles, mostly supporting roles, and in some short films as well such as the ones below:

I first noticed Sheil in Helberger In Paradise where she attends her first love’s funeral. And she kind of plays a hot mess.

Kate has upcoming projects to get psyched about including The Girlfriend Experience, Buster’s Mal Heart, and Equals, where she stars alongside Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Holt.

I like her look, I dig her style, and I look forward to her blossoming career.

New Year’s Resolutions

200_s

It’s officially 2016. One more year of your life is officially over. Or for you optimistic people out there, it’s the beginning of a new year to prosper, learn, and grow. That is what I will be indulging in…hopefully.

I, like most people, have a few problems that tend to set me back when trying to get work done: I get lazy, which can consist of me not getting enough work done. I have ADD/ADHD (I’m sure), which results in getting distracted easily. And I live my life going through different phases which results in me going from one thing to another. One month I’ll be obsessed with Youtube, the next writing, the next filmmaking, then photography, etc. The list goes on and on.

That’s why this year, I hope to GET MORE SHIT DONE. I will do this by having more structure in my life and creating less distractions. This year is my year, I can feel it. Instead of wasting the valuable time I have, I will be doing something that is PRODUCTIVE. This is the year of productivity.

I will do more. I will create more. I will write more. I will experience more.

I can be a pretty boring person. I rung in the new year completing a short script, about 35 pages, but for me, that was a kick ass way to start my new year. Accomplishing more. Doing more. Focusing more. That will be me.

So down below, I’ll name a few goals I have for this new year:

  1. WRITE MORE

I hope to write, and COMPLETE more screenplays. I have so many scripts that I have started but haven’t finished. I strive to accomplish more by putting pen to paper…or hand to keyboard I should say.

2. READ MORE

I hope to read more in general, whether it’s news, novels, stories, but mostly I’d like to read more screenwriting books. I have read a lot, but I have so many that are collecting dust.

3.  EDIT MORE

I hope to do a lot more editing of my scripts so I can get them sent off to Hollywood or in competitions.

4.  WATCH MORE MOVIES

This includes new movies along with classics.

5.  BE MORE PRODUCTIVE ALL AROUND

In all facets of my life.

Those are my New Year’s resolutions and I hope to stick to them. Good luck with all your New Year’s rezzies. May you have a productive year!

What are your New Year’s resolutions?

Alone With People Short Film

I came across this short film on Vimeo that was posted a week ago. It’s called Alone With People and the title is quite telling. It’s about a 15-year-old girl who comes to terms with her sexuality with the help of her therapist.

It’s so powerful, awkward, and quirky. It provides us with such a positive message. It’s a great depiction of a young girl accepting who she is. She reminded me so much of myself when I was younger, minus the pot smoking and sneaking around watching The L Word.

What makes this piece so palpable is how relatable it is. Literally, this girl is a lot of us lesbians out there. She is as awkward as we were when we came out. She is as honest as we were and definitely as curious. What’s even more amazing is the girl who stars in the film, Quinn Marcus, (from MTV’s Girlcode) wrote it and it’s based on her coming out experience. What a great, personal story she shared with the world.

I just have to say, did Quinn really watch The L Word with her Dad? (Cringe worthy) How awkward is that??? Seeing as how 50% of the show is sex, but again, it was amusingly portrayed.

Like I said before, Alone With People was written by Quinn Marcus and directed by Drew Van Steenbergen. Make sure to check it out. You won’t regret it.

Here is the film:

Enjoy!

“The Root of the Problem” Short Film

I came across this great short film on Vimeo called The Root of the Problem. It’s written by Ryan Spindell and Mark E. Davidson, and directed by Ryan Spindell. It was nominated for best narrative short in 2013 at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Synopsis: In the candy-colored world of 1950’s suburbia, a reluctant housewife suspects that the friendly neighborhood dentist is hiding a horrible secret… but is it just the anesthesia, or is something more sinister hiding just below the surface?

“Open up and say AHHHHH!”

Ryan Spindell brings us into this creepy world where things aren’t as they seem. I definitely recommend checking it out.
